Oxford International College (OIC)

About Oxford International College

At Oxford International College, we provide our students with an open and stimulating study environment in a city that has been world-renowned for academic excellence for almost 1,000 years.

Students are taught by some of the Oxford's finest tutors, who are all experts in their fields; mostly Oxford University alumni or hold doctorate degrees from Oxford.

Superior exam results

In 2017 OIC came 3rd in the league table for all sixth form colleges and 5th in the table of all UK boarding schools with 71.43% of students attaining A or A* grades - see https://www.best-schools.co.uk/uk-school-league-tables/sixth-form-colleges/

Our unique philosophy

A strong feature of the College is its focus on a career curriculum, which gives our students a competitive edge when applying to university and in their future careers. We take pride of our unique integration of 3 key skills to success: Academic Excellence, Career Development and Personal Development.

We believe that all our students have the potential to become professionals, innovators, leaders and scholars of the future. To enable them to succeed in their academic and professional careers, we recognise the need for learning to go beyond the confines of the classroom.

At OIC, A-levels only provide the initial building blocks for education at the college and we encourage OIC students to supplement their academic interests by:

  • attending clubs/societies and entering competitions in their chosen subjects.
  • attending classes for university admissions tests, which enhance their thinking skills and show them how to use the knowledge learnt at A-level to solve new and unfamiliar problems.
  • completing an Extended Project Qualification, gaining independent research skills as well as learning how to analyse, use and communicate the information.
  • undertaking a number of work experience placements, as well as a range of industry competitions.

Students are supported and encouraged to reflect on all of this by their mentor (a graduate student at Oxford University) through the Bridging Programme which seeks to bridge the gap between school and university by putting the students in touch with somebody who is working at the top level in their chosen field of interest.

Results

Our approach of integrating our 3 strands of Academic Excellence, Career Development and Personal Development has proven to be successful. In 2018 we had:

  • 50% success rate for entry to the University of Cambridge
  • 100% success rate for Engineering at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London (top universities for Engineering)
  • 100% success rate into Medical and Dental schools
  • 100% success rate for Economics and related degrees at the University of Cambridge, London School of Economics and the University of Warwick
  • 100% success to Russell Group universities for all other courses
  • 100% success to top universities worldwide

College Life

Our pastoral team helps students to settle into college and boarding life and continues to support them throughout the whole duration of their studies. With house parents and wardens living alongside our boarding students, we try to create a home away from home, to build a friendly and homely atmosphere.

Students have access to the Oxford University Sports Club situated within walking distance of the college and the halls of residence. There is a range of activities and competitions taking place throughout the year and opportunities for everybody to get involved.
